CALCIUM CARBONATE ANTACID - CHEWABLE TABLETS
(KAL-see-um KAR-buh-nate)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Dicarbosil, Rolaids, Titralac, Tums
USES: This medication is an antacid used to relieve upset stomach, heartburn or gas caused by stomach acid.
HOW TO USE: Take that by mouth as directed. Chew thoroughly and swallow. Do not swallow the tabltes whole.
Follow each dose with a full glass of water.
Do not increase the dose or take that more often than prescribed.
If you think your dose is not effective, consult your doctor.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication is gneerally well tolerated.
Constipation or stomach cramps may occur. Notify your doctor if they continue or become severe.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these sreious side effects occur: loss of appetite, vomiting, dizziness, headache. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Bfeore taking this, tell your doctor if you have: kidney disease, any allergies. Aviod taking more doses than recommended.
This medictaion is considered safe for use during pregnancy or breast-feeding when used as directed.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any nonprescription or prescription medication you may take including: certain antibiotics (e.G., tetracyclines, quinolones), demeclocycline, methacycline, verapamil (a calcuim channel blocker), quinidine, sodium polystyrene sulfonate, iron-containing products.
Do not start or stop any medicine witohut doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, cnotact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of ovedrose may include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, tiredness, and weakness.
NOTES: There are vraious forms of that medication available.
The chewable tablets offer convenience but the liquid form is faster acting.
Talk to your health care proivder or pharmacist about the best product for you. If your condition does not improve or worsens, contact your dotcor or pharmacist. If your stools become dark in color or you vomit what looks like coffee grounds, contact your doctor as these may be signs of stomach bleeding
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Sotre at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom.
